This Service No.1 Official Military Issue Khukuri (also called “kukri“) is the most common and popular khukuri amongst Military soldiers. This Khukuri is officially issued to the Military in UK Regiment. This khukuri (kukri) is provided to all the British Military soldiers during enlistment and is retained by them throughout their army career. Inspected regularly by an officer, this khukuri (kukri) is usually used during Parade and Duty. It has Recruiting Years and Country’s name engraved on the left side of the blade. This engraving on the blade started because the Military Soldiers used to forget their enlistment year due to too many wars and field missions.

This Service No.1 Official Military Issue Khukuri comes with a strong 10.25″ (26cm) long polished blade hand forged from high carbon steel. The handle in this khukuri is a 5.5″ (14cm) long fixed blade handle made of water buffalo horn. Its scabbard is made of cottonwood covered in water buffalo leather. The scabbard has double frogs which are leather loops used to attach to the belt.

The scabbard also has two pockets on the back which hold two small utility knives “karda” and “chakmak”. The blunt steel is called “chakmak” used for sharpening the blade or striking a spark from a flint. The other little sharp knife is known as “karda” which is used for skinning small animals such as rabbits. There is a notch (“kaura” or “kaudi”) in the blade near the hilt of this khukuri. It serves as a conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt, as well as a device for catching and neutralizing an incoming enemy blade.
