This 14″ Historical Salyani Kukri represents a distinct aspect of Nepalese culture known as “Salyani”. The Salyani Khukuri, also referred to as “kukri” or “khukri” by many people outside Nepal, boasts a truly unique and distinctive design. Originally called Salyani khukuri in eastern Nepal, its name evolved to “Hancy Khukuri” with increasing popularity among Westerners. The Salyani blade stands out with its semi-curved, crescent-shaped blade devoid of any shoulder (peak). Intricate patterns, or carvings, adorn both sides of the blade’s top panel, offering a unique identity and showcasing exceptional craftsmanship.

Since the medieval era, the Salyani khukuri has featured various traditional and beautiful patterns, known as “buttas” in Nepali, covering the blade. Sometimes, gold and silver decorations were added to symbolize the religious and mythical aspects of the carrier and their ancestors. Individuals of high status often carried these ornately patterned “Buttewal” Salyanis to display their power and prowess. The meticulous etching of the blade, accomplished by bare hands using conventional tools, is a time-consuming process that demands great skill. The knife’s bevel is notably larger (deeper) than regular ones, providing a sharp and sleek edge for deep and deadly cuts. The legendary religious notch enhances the knife’s typical and classic appearance. The slim and slender, semi-curved blade of the Salyani khukuri contributes to its lighter weight.

This 14″ Historical Salyani Kukri | Hancy Khukuri knife has a 14-inch blade made from highly graded 5160 carbon steel with a polished finish. There is a 6-inch long rat tail tang handle made from rosewood. This handle design will protect your hand from the extremely sharp edge of the blade when you are using it. The engraving design creates a more unique & antique look. Handcrafted by skilled Nepalese blacksmiths the kukri uses traditional techniques & high-quality materials. You can also customize this etching kukri Knife to your liking if you want it with a full tang handle. You can do so by simply selecting the full tang handle option.

This 14″ Historical Salyani Kukri | Hancy Khukuri knife is best for building, clearing, chopping firewood, digging, slaughtering animals for food, cutting meat and vegetables, skinning animals, and opening cans. Outdoor enthusiasts can use the Kukri as a survival or camping knife. The steel hardness levels measurements are spine 22-25 RC, belly 45-46 RC, and edge 58-60 RC. The lower spine measures 4 mm, and the upper spine is 7 mm thick. A Karda & Chakmak are included with this khukuri. Karda is a sharp knife that can be used to cut fruits & vegetables, open tin cans, etc. The Chakmak is a blunt steel that can be used to hone the khukuri blade or used to produce sparks for fire with fire steel or flint. The scabbard, made of pipal (Fig Tree) wrapped in goat leather, provides added protection to the khukuri while facilitating easy & safe storage & carriage.
