The is an 11″ WW II Historic Throwing Balance Khukuri | Genuine Full Tang Hand-Forged Kukri by Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. It was a very common blade design used by the Gurkha Rifles regiment of the British Army during the world war period. This khukuri (also called Kukri or Khukri by many people outside Nepal) is slightly bigger and heavier that the current issue khukuri of the Gurkha Armies. The blade has a more curved design of the blade than the standard-size Service No.1 khukuri.

It is also a Balance khukuri meaning that it can be balanced in the middle of the edge of the blade. This balance khukuri is very difficult to craft as it has to be equally proportionate at both ends. The blade is forged slightly curved so that the maker can distribute the weight of the blade and handle evenly in order to achieve the balance position of the khukuri. The unique curved shape of the Balance khukuris also resembles the aboriginal weapon called the “Boomerang”. However, there is nothing to do with the latter’s exclusive function.

This blade requires a professional bladesmith with many years of experience. It is hand forged by Kaamis (bladesmiths in Nepal) who belong to the Biswakarma caste using traditional tools and methods at our Ex Gurkha Khukuri House. The Bishwakarmas are the traditional inheritors of the art of kukri-making and have been crafting it for many generations.

The 11″ WW II Historic Throwing Balance Khukuri has a highly polished 11-inch blade made of highly graded 5160 carbon steel with a balance oil quenching temper and is very strong and super sharp. The handle is more practical and beautiful in design. The handle is 5.5 inches in length and is a full tang handle made of rosewood. The scabbard is made from pinewood wrapped in water buffalo leather.

Besides its historical background, the khukuri is great for use and the blade can be used to chop firewood, cut meat & bone, clear bushes, etc. There is a saying that if you throw this knife, it will hit the right target with the tip or the sharp edge forward.

The notch (Kaura or kaudi ) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuri serves as the conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt and as well as a spot for catching and neutralizing an enemy blade.

All Khukuris have two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a blunt steel called “chakmak” for sharpening the blade or for striking spark with a flint and a little sharp knife known as “karda” used for skinning small animals or cutting fruits.
